‘’Book learning is good for starters, but to know how local Taiwanese people really talk…that’s the best!’’
‘’What I mostly looking for is tips and usages for speaking like native Taiwanese’’.
‘’After learning Chinese with traditional materials in school, I realized how big is the gap between textbook (formal) Chinese and real life Chinese! I wish I knew so I can save time on adjusting my speaking to natural Chinese.
‘’I want to sound natural and pronounce like Taiwanese people’’
Guys, I hear you all! As a Chinese teacher, I am surprised (also disappointed) at the current materials that exist.
Many of them focus on ‘’ formal usages’’, ‘’standard pronunciations’’, ‘’outdated way of speaking’’…if you are not learning the Chinese that ‘’ordinary Taiwanese people’’ speak, it is not surprise that you might find it hard to understand local people.
For these years, I have been searching for materials that are teaching practical Chinese suits life in Taiwan. To be honest, I don’t find one. Therefore, I decide to create my own one!
Don’t get me wrong! I am not saying textbooks are bad, there are good in many ways especially for starting out, but many content are outdated and not suits modern Taiwanese Mandarin.
What I do is to extract the good from textbooks and sprinkle the very Taiwanese elements into the course (pronunciation, expressions, and grammar structures). That way, you are not
only save your time feeling frustrated, figuring out how to fill up the gap after spending time and money learning with traditional materials, but still have good grammar knowledge and be able to speak like us!
Let’s learn Chinese connect you and Taiwanese people!
